Today Apple announced the winners of their coveted Apple Design Award ahead of their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) this week, where Procreate Dreams won in the ‘Innovation’ category. This is the third Apple Design Award for the Procreate team, after their first app Procreate won in 2013 for Outstanding Design and in 2022 for Inclusivity.
The Apple Design Awards celebrate the best-of-the-best in app design and development on MacOS, iOS, iPadOS, and now visionOS. Focusing on excellence in innovation, design and technical achievement, an Apple Design Award is considered by many in the tech world as one of the most sought-after awards. Having been released for less than a year, Procreate Dreams has opened up 2D animation to a whole new generation of animators on iPad with a host of innovative touch-first features aimed at making animation more approachable and fun for both beginners and professionals alike.
After receiving the award, Procreate CEO and founder, James Cuda said, “It’s incredibly humbling to even be nominated for one Apple Design Award, let alone winning for the third time. It is a testament to the team’s dedication to making creative tools that empower human creativity.”
Procreate Dreams took ten years of learnings from Procreate on iPad to develop unique ways to interact in the 2D animation space. Designed from the ground up to be a touch-first 2D animation tool, Procreate Dreams changed how users maneuver and interact with the timeline, introduced intuitive touch-based Performing for motion, and applied both these advances to effects and Live Filters as well.
The Procreate team is honored to see the hard work and passion they have poured into Procreate Dreams recognized so early in the app’s development. They are just as excited for what is to come, “With both Procreate and Procreate Dreams we really have just begun,” said Chief Technology Officer, Michael Shaw. “With a development pipeline stretching years into the future, we're already looking to welcome more top talent to join us for the next exciting chapter of our journey.”
Procreate is humbled to be among an amazing field of passionate and dedicated developers and congratulate all nominees. Read more about the full list of Apple Design Awards and winners here.
